It’s E-Z to Make Your Own Cat Food!

July 23, 2016

When I recently took my cat to a veterinary dermatologist about his possible food allergy, she explained how easy it is to make your own cat food. I like knowing that my cats food contains only 100% human-grade ingredients and no cancer-causing additives or artificial anything.

You’ll need a small crock pot. I found them for only $9 at WalMart. Just slice a pound or two of fresh meat into small pieces and put it in the crock pot. Add 1 to 1.5 cups of water and maybe half a cup of cubed fresh sweet potato. That’s it!

Let it simmer on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the meat is cooked thoroughly and the sweet potato is mushy. Turn the crock pot down to warm and let the food cool for about an hour, then put it all in a blender (or use a hand blender) to puree it. You can feed some to your cat now and put the rest in a storage container in the fridge.

If you prefer, you can add vitamins and minerals, especially taurine. I add a couple scoops of LifeExtension Cat Mix and blend thoroughly.

If you plan to feed this or any other homemade diet to your cat exclusively, please talk to a vet first!

For meats other than beef and chicken, check your local farmer’s markets.
